The Importance of Color in Video
Color is a powerful tool in storytelling. It evokes emotions, sets the tone, and can make or break a video. That’s why our Creative Productions team takes color very seriously. Our goal is to capture and preserve the colors that faithfully represent our products, from the moment we hit record to the final product.
Our Color Workflow
To ensure color accuracy, we follow a meticulous workflow:
Capture
- White Balance: We start by setting the correct white balance on our cameras. This establishes a neutral baseline for color.
- Color Reference: We use tools like the Calibrite ColorChecker Video Target to capture a reference for precise color grading later.

Post-Production
- Calibrated Monitors: Our editing suites are equipped with professional-grade monitors calibrated monthly using tools like Datacolor Spyder. This ensures that what we see on screen is as close as possible to the final output.
- Color Grading: Our editors are skilled in maintaining color accuracy.

The Challenge of Color Reproduction
While we strive for perfection, it’s important to understand that color perception is subjective and influenced by various factors.
- Device Differences: Different devices (phones, computers, TVs) have different displays, and even identical models can vary in color accuracy.
- Viewing Environment: Lighting conditions, screen brightness, and color settings can significantly impact how colors appear.
- Video Compression: To make videos suitable for digital distribution, they undergo compression, which reduces file size but also compromises image quality, including color accuracy. This compression happens both when creating standard video formats like MP4 and when uploading to online platforms like YouTube.
Ultimately, while we do everything in our power to deliver a visually stunning video, the exact colors you see will depend on the device and settings used to view it.
We’re committed to capturing and preserving color that are faithful to the products we film, but the final experience is shaped by the technology used to display the video.
